I am one of the people who installed this setup earlier as in the other threads. I did a couple of things differently from others: I threw away the amp inside the sub and have been driving the Bose speaker with the sub channel of an old Soudstream USA P203 amp. I use the other half of the amp to drive my rear speakers. Secondly, I open up a hole on plastic tray panel under the folded top to tighten the long screw to secure the speaker box and the spare.
Anyway, just last week, I made one more change to this and I am happy with the result.
For unknown reason, my amp ran really hot driving the Bose sub speaker. I double-checked the wiring, tried different channels, etc but no avail to reduce the temp down to a touchable level with moderate sub level. I even thought about installing a fan in the trunk where the amp is. I just picked up a used JL Audio 6W0 (4 ohm version) and replaced the Bose and the problem went away and, of course, the sound is much much better than before. I had to quite a bit of cutting, grinding, modifying the Bose box around where the speaker mounts and the lips (?) around the JL to fit the speaker in the box. The JL was a bit deeper than the box can handle and I used thick rubber filling around the lips of the speaker. It's mounted tight and I was able to put back the cover of the box on the top (with the opening I made before for more sound.)
I am very happy that I solved whatever the problem the amp was having to drive the Bose and the sound is pretty good now. I can make this thing rock and rattle pretty hard now. In fact, I would like to compare it with someone with a bigger sub box in the trunk some day to see how how this inexpensive no-trunk-space-sacrificing solution stack up against.
