Default Help with replacing stock speakers with components.

Hey guys... I need a little help if you don't mind.

I just bought a new 03 Civic SI as my commuter-mobile and the stereo is just awful. I wish to upgrade the speakers to components but wondering how difficult it will be to carve out the tweeters in the door pods and replace. I've done lots of stereo work on My S and other cars, but never had to replace the separate tweeters.

Since this is just a commuter for me I don't want to dump a bunch of $$$ in to it. I just need to improve the sound to something tolerable. I'm not going to change the head unit so I guess the real question is....

1) Should I just buy a quality set of 6.5s for the front and rear and abandon the door mounted tweeters.
2) Should I buy a decent set of components for the fronts (and deal with the tweeter carve-out) and a quality set of 6.6s for the rear.

Thanks....

Check the EP3 forum or Honda-tech, I'm sure other SI owners have done the tweeter carve out and can give you some tips.

If you do go with a nice set of components get a cheap amp to go with them as they'll probably sound worse than your stock speakers running off the OEM HU.

I can help you with this if you need it. Can you get me a picture of the door panel or at least the tweeter location?
