Default how to remove stock radio

I am about to install my USA Spec ipod interface with my factory head unit. I have a 2006 S2K.

Do i have to remove the arm rest / center console assembly to remove the radio, or can i remove it by just taking off the fold down cover?

All i need to do is pull it out to plug in my ipod interface, i am not replacing the head unit.

thanks

I took my radio out of my 04 last night. I read that you need to take out the center console before taking off the radio door, so that is what I did. It is really easy; only takes a minute or two.

IIRC, you don't need to take the center console off in order to pull the radio. What you need to do is put the shifter either on 2,4, or Reverse so you can get the clearance you need to pull the radio cover off, and firmly pull the radio cover off, there is a DIY stickied on this.

Even though you're not replacing the headunit, you will still need to remove it in order to get the i-pod plug on the backside of the headunit, which if I remember, is going to be your CD changer control.

I removed the center console when I did the head unit. If you want to run the iPod cable/wires through to the glove box, you probably want to run it through the center console anyway.

I don't recall if there was enough clearance to get the radio door off without removing the console, unfortunately. Console's easy enough to remove anyway, no tools needed (just your fingers).

Once the radio door's removed, there's just 4 philips screws holding the head unit that you need to remove, then the head unit slides right out.

It may be different on an AP1 but with the AP2 it's a lot easier just to remove the console first IMO. I didn't see a way to get the radio door assembly off with the AP2 console in place (it buts right against the raised front edge of the console).
