Installation of Polk ex3560's Help!?
OK, I trimmed out the back of the speaker baskets for the 6 1/2"s. I need to finish pulling wire before I will know how they will fit.
I tried to dry fit the tweeters behind the factory '03 cover, and they don't fit. I am going to try to trim the mounting bracket that came with the tweets, but it's pretty tight, and a slip could be a big problem. I tried to see of I could just use the Polk mounting kit and toss the factory ones, but those are too small to cover the factory hole. Any suggestions on this one?
Where specifically should I mount the X-over. Under-dash would be safest, but one new speaker wire throught the door is going to be tough enough, two I think is impossible. I am reluctant to start trying to peel off the factory sheet plastic on the door itelf. Can I mount the x-over to the door panel? I was thinking right below the armrest. Any suggestions on this one?
Pics are great if anyone has suggestions.
Thanks guys for all your help with this project. It's turning into a bit of a beast, but I am really past the point of no return.

I mounted my crossovers in the trunk so I wouldn't have to take off the door panel in order to play w/ the adjustments. It's not that bad getting two sets of wires through the door. Use a wire-fish from a coat hanger and some KY. Just cover your wires and fish with it and they'll slide through the factory looming fairly easily. KY is water-based so it'll evaporate on it's own.
I have different components, so I can't comment on the tweeter fit for your specifically, but in my case, I had to use a dremel tool to make a little "notch" on each side of mine, so they would slide into the same position as the factor tweeters, behind the factory "grill".
Hope some of this help, good luck.

Thanks. I am re-using some leftover monser cable from my home theater install. The wire is frankly HUGE and probably not what I would have chosen for the car, but since I already paid for it...
I really don't think two runs of it will fit, but I REALLY like the KY idea. Thanks.
Looks like I may need to trim the rings with my dremel, I just hope I don't slip!

Rue, have you thought about just leaving the crossovers in the doors? There is that little empty plastic box near the lower, non-hinged side of the door. That way you don't need to run new wires (at least INTO the doors.)
Well I still needed to run the wire to the x-over. A friend of mine and I were working on it today. Now I see what j_c_a meant. There is a TON of room in the gromet, it's getting all the damn tape off that is the PITA. We successfully ran 2 wires into the passenger door, and then we ran into all kinds of problems with the speaker mounting. The saga to continue on the driver's side later.
Back on topic... We mounted the passenger's x-over under the kick panel. This will give decent access without having to run an extra 10 feet of wire. This should also keep the x-over from ratteling around, and hopefully prevent any (highly unlikely) water dammage.
I had originally planned to put the x-over in the door, but upon further thought I realised that people opening and closing the door, plus the ocasional water run-off, I did not want to do that. Should be interesting finding a spot to mount the driver's side one. (I am thinking under the seat, or even behind the panel lucid uses for the rear speakers.

this , in my opnion would be the best bet. first the xover, put that in the little black box in the door panel, fits perfectly there. also, since you already cut the basket out of the speaker that shold be fine. i didnt cut the basket, i just screwed them on and have not experience any problems yet. as for the tweeters, if u push the middle piece of the tweeter out, the plastic black housing will pop out. it is just a decoration piece for the tweeters. if you pop the black piece out, the tweeter will fit snug with the stock bracket that held the stock tweeter. hope u do okay =D
