Default Installing alpine in the s - -please help

Hi,

I am going to put an alpine 9855 in my s.. can you please help with some questions i have
(1) the stock radio is held in place by two tabs that screw into the side of the radio and are then attached to the dash. What is the best way to hold the alpine HU?
(2)I believe the 9855 has a jack on the back for dash control (like some of the previous european radios).. Can someone please tell me the part number and where to get the alpine adapter to work with the stock dash controls. OR does someone have one they will sell me?
(trying to hard wire this -- as opposed to using a general purpose Infra red adapter in the radio door)
(3)Can someone recommend an alpine dealer to purchase the 9855, ipod interface, dash control, xm , etc from?

If you want to communicate directly with me please email me at tom_rutherford@hotmail.com (my pm's are full.. so i cannot receive pm)

Thanks for the help and advise.

Tom

As someone who is in the process of putting a system in, I can answer a couple of your questions.

1) - Take off the tabs from the stock and attach them to the new HU. Each bracket is labled (right and left) and the holes only line up in one spot.

2) - The interface you are talking about is pretty new. I haven't seen a single post of a person who has used it yet or can answer how well it works. Traditionally most people have gone with Modifry's DCI or replacing the dash controls with one specifically reprogrammed for your HU. Both options are pinned and discussed on the top of this forum.

3. Some suggested vendors are pinned as well.

1.) what the guy above said. You might have to file down some little dimples on the bracket to get it to fit flush agains the unit (I have the same HU).

2.) Don't waste your time with that. Get the DCI from the marketplace on this site. It's the best option for our cars b/c it's taylor made and it works especially well with Alpine. I have done other solutions and this one is the best (unless you want to go the DJ Cube route, but that's alot more money).

3.) I bought mine from a local Tweeter/HifiBuys store. They usually bargain with the price if you buy other things. I think they sell the i-pod interface as well. Make sure you get extended service, car stereos are expensive to fix.

I'll second that. I just finished installing an Alpine in my s2k 20 minutes ago using the DCI. Its fantastic.

this new adapter sounds like it will provide for a cleaner install, though modifry is already talking about using the same jack to build an Alpine specific DCI that won't extrude to the front face of the HU. If he gets it done, it will be time to sell the old DCI and get a new one (along with a new HU, of course.)

Not to jack the thread but, I just dropped a new Kenwood head in and didn't order the DCI before hand. Now I'm having second thoughts. Will this be a big deal to drop in if I get it now... Now it's all ready installed.??

I bought my DCI about a month and a half after installing my Alpine + iPod system. Installing the DCI took me maybe an hour, including pulling everything back apart and taking it to my workbench for soldering and splicing work. Modifry's product is very easy to install. All the wiring is easily accessible once you pull out the HU.

To answer the original #2 question : http://www.pac-audio.com/products/swi.htm

Don't have an opinion as I haven't tried either. Very happy with modifry's rev beeper, but going to get the pac unit myself.
