Default Installing tweeters

I just got an s2000- a 2003 gpw. I am installing a cheap audio system. Basically a sony hu and a polk db6500 component system. Although I am a car audio novice I feel I can do the install myself. My question is - will I have any trouble intalling the tweeters. Also will the 61/2s fit into the car without doing any mods.

BTW how hard is the lucid dci to install- I looked at his instructions and didn't find them particularly clear.

Also is it worthwhile installing an amp- the sony hu is a CDX-GT300 with i think 17watts power.

Thanks for the advice dudes

The mid-bass driver of the db6500 fit in the stock speaker baskets using the foam gasket provided with the speakers as a spacer. The back of the driver will just clear the back of the basket. The crossovers fit nicely in the hollow space of the door panel. The tweeters fit in the stock locations. You just need to find a way to attach them to the factory mounting bracket. The factory tweeters have single screw that attach the tweeter to the bracket, but this arrangement won't work with the Polk tweeters. Some people have simply epoxied the aftermarket tweeters to the factory bracket.

As for the DCI, I would use Modifry's DCI and harness (buy from Go Fast Labs) With this combination, the connections are very easy and can be done outside the car and then simply connected to the factory wiring with a single plug.

As for adding an amp--it's not necessary. You will be surprised how much better the setup you describe will sound compared to the stock system.

One more suggestion - If you have an iPod, I would seriously consider getting one of the new Alpine head units with 'Full Speed' iPod interface. Much better than any of the setups that emulate a CD changer.

Good luck.

Dont use that amp. The internal amp for the HU probably puts out similar numbers. If you are to get an amp, get one with a power rating similar to the recommended rating for the speakers. I dont know these speakers specs, but they are probably between 60-100.....

Also, just my personal opinion, but I would not use a Sony amp. I do not like the way that they sound, and the company is not CEA2006 compliant (last time I checked), so there is no guarantee that their represented wattage rating is what you will really get. Some people have had success with their HU's, though, as long as they are not the cheapest ones out there.
