Keyless ignition modification?
The "auto-everything" prox idea seems like an annoyance to me because this will happen:
I park in the garage and walk away from the car. It locks. Later, I or my wife go to get something out of the car and we can't because my "key" is somewhere else. Why do I need my doors locked if it's parked in my garage?
Or, I have the key in my pocket and get inside the car to do something (clean the windshield, dig out a CD under the seat) and the car starts up in the garage spewing exhaust and I have to open the garage door to clear it out and lose all the heat it took me 45 minutes to build up in the garage so I can work in there.
Annoying.
Now I did have push-button (code) ignition on my '68 VW Beetle, but it didn't have a steering wheel lock or chipped keys.

Modifry, I dont think anybidy mentioned auto start without a key. So if you are in the garage, you still have to press the push start button to turn on the car.
A solution to your first issue is very simple. First off, if you locked your car when you left your garage, even with the OEM system you would still be SOL since you "forgot" your key. Secondly, you can just have some sort of on/off switch and turn the proximity sensor off when you arrive in the garage. I have no idea how simple this would be.

Yeah I've been super busy and I haven't had the time to gather all the info on this.
However that said I was thinking more along the lines of having a keypad in the car to start it. If your talking about having no key at all just walk up, get in, and go... then that is a totally different animal. Auto everything is a LOT of work.

I'm still not completly sure how this would be done.
This is just off the top of my head. I don't think this is going to be easy. A lot of custom electronics would need to be part-sourced and created. In the long run I'm not sure it would be worth it. It's an interesting concept but would require a lot of refactoring of the current ignition, security and locks. It would also introduce a potential point of failure that could shut the car down mid-flight.
- You'd need an RFID reader and RFID chip. (secure but barely)
- You'd need some way to bypass the chip reader built into the current ignition.
- You would need some way to unlock the steering column
- Chip reader would have to be wired into unlock circuit on the car
- Chip reader would need to set the car to the "on" position (relay?)
- Start button would still be needed to start car, how to turn it off?
- If you are in motion and the RFID chip, or reader, dies, what happens to the car? What's the failsafe for hardware failure?

you mean FOB's like the lexus' have? just leave the key in your pocket and push the button to start the car.....pretty cool and simple
It's simple if the car is designed for it. But trying to retro-fit the design onto a car like ours isn't to simple, as I mentioned.
