Unhappy Modifry ECT Fix

I ordered a modifry ECT fix unit for m EMS equipped AP1 a few months ago, and I installed it at home. The install was very simple and easy, but I am still having an issue with my unit. I have read the FAQ section on Modifry's site but I cannot find any resolution to my problem.. At first, I thought it could be a ground loop, but the symptoms are not similar.. anyway, here is the problem.

Whenever the key is in the ignition, the dash will read 3 bars (AP1). This is consistent whenever the car is on. Even if the key is in the on position but the engine is not on, it will read out 3 bars. I checked the unit's LED light to make sure that the # of blinks was synchronized with the 3 bar output and it is indeed correct. The unit will blink at the correct rate for 3 bars. At first, I thought maybe it could be the input parameters in the unit itself, but I cannot find anyone that has a 9-pin serial port to check.. If the parameters are correct, perhaps I received a faulty unit? does anyone have any input/suggestions?

Using a USB to Serial converter cable (which can be picked up at Newegg.com for about $25), you can use a laptop with a USB connector to reprogram the ECT unit with the default values. Instructions are posted on Modifry's site for using HyperTerminal in Windows.

bump.. trying to see if theres any other technical answers i should look into... I don't want to go and spend $25 to buy an adapter just to find out that the parameters are correct.

if the gauge matches the LED's blinking, it might be the voltage wire that the module reads.

are you using 7173 plugs? I think i might have an issue with 7173 plugs and the ECT module. mine somtimes drops down to 0 bars then slowly move back up to 3. Does not occur all the time, connections are soldered on.

no, I am running another set of plugs that are 1 step colder.. im not sure which kind they are tho.. Also, I read off the resistance values going into the unit, and they seem to be correct. (reads cold when engine is cold, reads hot when engine is hot) but the unit still outputs a consistent 3 bar reading.
