Default Modifry IR vs Wired DCI

Hey all, Ive got an alpine 9751 in my s2k right now, Im not so happy with how it sounds and I think it lacks a little on customization. I've got a dilemma now though. I have a 9813 from a couple years back I loved but changed radios just so I could use the wired DCI.

Is there any major differences between how the IR and Wired Operate?
Any chance I could change them out through modifry for a small fee or whatever?

My other option is I am considering the 9756 which just came out. Would this be better than my old 9813? I dont use an Ipod nor do I really care about HD Radio etc.

And one last question kind of irrelevant, but Alpine switched to 2v preouts on their models lately. My 9813 is 4v preout and Ive always been told the higher the better. Why did they recently go back to 2 then?

So what would you guys do in my situation.

The rest of my system includes Alpine 600watt rms sub amp. (2) 2ch amps bridged for each speaker doing 140w rms. I have DLS components up front. And for sub I have an Alphasonik 10 on the way in a custom fiberglass box.

Sorry for the longwinded post, any help would be appreciated.

I can't answer the OP's question -- sorry -- but I have a similar one. Does the Alpine 9857 have the 3.5mm jack that will take the wired DCI? I'd like to upgrade to one for the high-speed iPod capability and would like to go wired on the DCI.

Edit: Disregard -- found a link to the list on Modifry's webpage. For the record, the 9857 is compatible with the wired DCI.

I have no experience with the wired DCI, but the IR one works
great for me (not Alpine - Nak CD400). Only downsides that
I'm aware of:
1) you have a tiny IR emitter sticking out. it doesn't need to
stick out far.
2) some people have complained about problems in bright
sunlight - I've experienced this exactly once, with the sun
directly behind me, shining right on my headunit, with my
emitter about 3" away from the sensor. I reached down and
closed the radio door.
I appreciate the elegance of the wired solution, but I appreciate
more being able to use the headunit of my choice. If you like
your 9813, I'd go with it, and you may find someone here who
has upgraded their headunit and would like to swap an IR DCI
for your wired one.
