The iPod is only 1" thick, so won't fill up the glove box, it won't even use the entire bottom 1". I'll wire it with a jack mounted flush to the wall of the glove box, so I can plug it in for use, and remove it and have the use of the entire glove box.

The iPod comes with a headphone cable remote, so I can let that hang out of the glove box door for control, although in general I set it to play a playlist and don't need to access the controls.

Outside of the car it functions much like any standalone mp3 player, and connects to my laptop via FireWire for quick synchronization.

I don't see how a 'real solution' would be anywhere as useful or convenient, other than having in-dash display/control, which I admit would be nicer.

I was thinking of hooking up my iPod to a stereo for some time, but just couldn't find a good way of doing it. I ended up buying an Alpine headunit with MP3 capabilities -- and I'm still able to use the dashboard controls without going through an infrared controller, which was important to me...

Look here.

One MP3 CD = approx. 7 hours of music. That should tide me over for a long ride, so the 10 GB of my iPod really would have been overkill, anyway.

I want to get my "me, too" in for Lucid's hardwired solution. I want to be able to listen to audible.com content from my ipaq and if ipod's could play WMA files), I'd get one of those, too.

Tedster, I'll talk to you sometime about how to run power to the glove box -- that sounds like a great answer.

I'll get something together then. Is there an interest in a straight input only, or a power tap too?

ethanz,

I'll let you know when/if I get it all working! I'm not planning power for the first stage (I'll rely on the battery), but if I wind up using it a lot, I will add power.

BTW, the iPod will now play Audible.com content, too.

Lucid, I'm not sure a power tap would be a worthwhile addition since you'd have all different varieties of mp3 players being connected (Nomads, iPods, Archebos, etc).

I think Clark's probably right. I'm happy to provide power off a separate run to the cigarette lighter. thanks, lucid. this'll be cool.

Simple and Inexpensive and soon. That's all I want. My MP3 player is rechargable so I don't care to have powre to it.

Hey, lucid! Any updates on the progress of the AUX Input?

I passed up a free CD Changer this past weekend (I won the Honda S2000 Accessory of my choice at our NE Ohio Meet at Ganley Honda) since I was assuming that you'd come up with something, and went for the rear spoiler instead. Don't let me down......

(No pressure or anything....)
