I just got offered a deal on a MTX thunder 895 5 channel amp for $250 and the MTX thunder 8000 12" subwoofer for $130. Just wondering what people thought of these products. I sure could use the 5 channel amp but was wondering if i should invest $100 more and go phoenix gold. Any input would be great.

MTX makes quality products (not to much shy of PG these days). The problem with that setup is the 5th channel of the 895 is not powerful enough to properly drive an 8000. You'd underpower it and (as we all know) underpowering is worse than overpowering. MTX's new subs coming out are pretty damn impressive. They're stepping UP their game instead of going towards the way of Bling (PG). I just wish PG was the same company they were 5+ years ago, kinda like Kicker...

why wouldnt the amp push the sub? the amps sub channel is 320watts rms and the sub is 400rms. is that too much of a difference?

320Watts at 2 ohms, 160 watts at 4 ohms. I guess I forgot to ask the impedence of the sub. Is it Single Voice Coil or Dual? Is it 2 ohm or 4 ohm per voice coil? If it's dual 4 ohm or single 2 ohm, you'll be fine. If not, you'll need a different amp.

looking at this: http://www.mtxaudio.com/caraudio/products/.../thunder895.cfm

and the sub link you provided... (normally, i don't trust vendors outside of Crutchfield to get product specs right, but looking on MTX's site ( http://www.mtxaudio.com/caraudio/products/...uperWoofers.cfm ), i'm not seeing the 8000. also the site you linked shows out of stock, so it may be discontinued.

either way -- looking at those links, i'd say that wiring the 8000 for 2 ohms (parallel) would make those a good match... i didn't see any enclosure requirements for the sub though -- make sure it can fit.
