My electronics are screwy, what's up with this?
Hi All,
About a month ago I got my 2005 S2000 back from the auto body shop. I was clipped pretty good by a woman who was obviously paying more attention to the beauty of my car than the red light she had.
Anyways, I had the passenger side front fender replaced, as well as the passender door, passenger wheel and tire. The car came back looking better than when I bought it in Feb 2008. But ever since then, I've had some "ghosts". For example, the interior dome light did not come on when the door would open, and my remote did not always lock the car when pressed, (but it did always unlock it), and the door indicator light would always flash on and off. I figured the door wasn't properly adjusted, leaving the plunger a little weak of pressure causing the light to come on when I turn or go over bumps.
But, one day all those problems just stopped. Dome light worked fine, remote was fine, and the door light never came on. Go figure.
NOW the ghosts are back. I just had my new sound system installed, and my dome light is acting up again, so is my remote. To top it off, my starter isn't working, but I all the lights are on. I only have 36,000 miles on the car, so I'd be surprised the starter is out already. I have been told by my mechanic and my system installer, that the system I have now is probably not the problem. Maybe it's just the battery? I have no idea if this is the original battery or not. I am going to try to use my spare key in case the problem is something due to the immobization feature, but I doubt that's it because I can hear the starter try to work when I press the ignition button. I also remember this happening about 4 months ago- I spent a good 2 hours detailing my car with the radio on, and when I was done the starter wouldn't work. Later that day I tried again and it worked, so maybe it is the starter. Oh well, I have the full premium extended warranty so that might come in handy. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Hobbes

If it is just the plunger not getting depressed enough you can stick a little dense foam or similar on the door panel right where it touches. I dented my door panel in exactly that location and that's my fix until I bother to pull the dent.
The starter is the misfit though. You may have a loose ground that is common to the lights and the starter button. Have you checked the ground point under the dash on the drivers side? Also check that the switch isn't corroded on the dome light. Sometimes I have to shake the switch back and forth to get it to make contact. Sand papering the contacts in the fixture will fix it if that's the case.
Well, I tried again after work yesterday and definitely a problem with the battery. My Alpine radio presets were all reset, and once I hit the red button the whole car flashed up like a pinball machine, then went dim. Kinda cool to watch actually- I had never seena battery linger on death's door for so long. I'll drop a new battery in and hopefully that clears things up. If that battery starts to drain quick, then I'll know for sure something else is going on.
