Default My Passport 8500 just died.

My Passport 8500 radar detector suddenly stopped working. I get no read-out from the unit, and no lights blink on the power adaptor, where it plugs in. I tried a different car... still nothing.

I also tried disconnecting the power adaptor from the unit, and just plugging that into the 12v socket, and no lights. Does that mean that it could be a faulty power adaptor?

If anybody else has a Passport, could you try plugging the adaptor into the 12v socket after disconnecting the adaptor from the main unit... and please let me know if you get any lights on the adaptor itself without having the main unit connected? If you do, that would suggest my power adaptor is bad, and I need only to replace that.

If it doesn't work, what is the company (I originally found them here) that sells these units for $249?

Many thanks to whoever can answer my questions!

Try the volume switch. If turned completly, it will turn the radar off.

i think when the power cord is disconnected from the detector, that there are no lights lit on the smart cord.

have you checked fuses? or tried the detector in another car?
