Default MY01 - Will Focal 165krc fit?

i'm looking into upgrading the horrible system in my my01. i've read rave reviews about focal and have also gone thru the FAQ.

looks like i've got 2.65" of depth to work with at the top for door speakers (more on bottom due to window clearance i think). i'm looking at the focal 165krc coaxials, but they are 3" deep. math doesn't add up, but i've heard of others getting focal coaxials to work. do custom brackets do the trick by buying the extra space?

any comment or suggestions from the trenches would be appreciated. or other coaxial focal models that work.

here's a link to the speaker specs in case anyone's interested:

thanks,
eric

Dukegrad, you still in Durham? It's where I live, but I am a UNC Grad (about to be a student again at the SPH). There are a lot of good Carolina people on this board.

I think a lot of people run these Focals. Most just use a simple spacer I believe. I ama bout to use the TS-C720PRS most likely, and it is 2-5/8 and comes with a spacer that people on the boards have said will clear.
3" Could probably be done with a little fab work.

Fam is still there so I make it down to tobacco road fairly regularly from Kentucky. No, I'm not welcome here on UK turf... Laettner's shot still haunts them to this day. They've got a good coach coming in though w/ Calipari. Hey, at least your team is still in the Tourney!

The Pioneers look sweet, but they're components. I don't have the tweeter spot in the door (wish i did!) so that's why i was hoping to take the easy road w/ coaxials (plus i can get a smokin' deal on the Focals from a friend). Didn't want to mess w/ trying to custom fit tweets anywhere.

Yea I forgot the 01 had no tweets and MY02 (mine) was the first one with them. I bet you aren't welcome on UK turf. A lady I work with is from there and her husband hates being here in Durham between Duke and UNC. Calipari will be a great fit there and will bring in a lot of talent, not to mention appease the wine and cheese crowd (yea, I said it).

How smoking of a deal are we talking on Focals? And would you be willing to pass a set off to me if I gave you a "finders" fee? I would love to have a set, but can't pay $500 for them. No desire to keep any eye out for a set of used door panels with the tweeter mount?

the previous generation K2 Power line from Focal (165KF 6 1/2" component set) is on a clearance sale at a lot of vendors at the moment (some of whom have ebay store fronts) for around $300. here's one example:

and their listing on ebay:
