Your answer is in my earlier post above. It is a male connector with a black wire with yel stripe, taped to the wiring harness running right above the hood release lever, taped with blue tape. (Behind the kick panel.)

do you think i can buy the 'alarm led' on http://www.varad.com/products/products-index.html
cut the wires to that led and use it to power the factory led without having to buy an alarm but giving an illusion of an alarm with an oem cleaness?
No. You don't "power" the OEM LED. You ground the wire from the LED to make it light, usually via an alarm system. It gets it's 12V + voltage from wiring in the instrument panel. Any electronics that provides a ground should be able to use the OEM LED as an indicator.

It might work. But I don't know how their "black box" flasher module works. Would have to experiment with one. They are sold locally but I don't remember where. I'll go look for one this weekend and experiment.

any luck?
i got one of these things but i have no idea where to tap.

maybe it's just easier to tap the led ground to something that's ground when the ignition is off. so it's just a solid led light ...maybe it wont drain too much to matter.
i give up

if you want i can send you the blinking led thing and you can play around with it. it's useless in my hands. pm me if you are interested sparkie..

or do you know if you ground the led, and when you start the car does it stop sending the led 12v+.. probably not, that would be super simple.

I just got a Clifford 550 installed and asked the installer to connect it to the factory LED and he was able to. Works great. I'm hoping it's a great way to surprise car thieves that think I have the stock alarm system. It has a proximity sensor so as soon as they start peeking into the windows...ZAP!

ok this definitely doesnt work. it lights up regardless if the car is on or offf as long as it's grounded.

jarod .. how much did you pay for your alarm? can you use your stock remote to arm /disarm?(never liked the look of aftermarket remotes) where did you get it installed? how long did it take?
thanks
