Need expert advice
I am doing my first audio install and need some help. I am putting in a dci, sony hu, and polk db6500 components.
I actually hardwird my escort 8500 yesterday using instructions on the site and it worked really well. The instructions I followed were more or less idiot proof.
I need help putting in the components. In PLAIN english how can I connect the tweeter and the woofer to the polk crossover. I know there is some rudimentary bass blocker already in the wiring which I have to cut out. The simpler( assume severe ignorance) the instructions the better
Also the db6500s have a sensitivity of 92db and the sony hu has 17 watts - I am hoping I will not have to put in an amp because the wiring looks pretty tough. Do you think the sound quality will be ok without an external amp.I want to do the whole install myself and I am scared an amp install will kill me.
I actually have Lucid rear kenwood speakers(from my 1st s2000) that I have decided not to install because my reading of various posts seem to indicate they are not such a great addition.
It feels great getting away from the so called experts at Circuit City and the local grimy audio shop. Hopefully I won't blow myself up.

Here is a rough step by step procedure for installing the db6500's (I just did the same to my S2000):
1. Remove door panels (you can find instructions at Lucid)
2. Remove the tweeters from the door panels.
3. Remove the factory mounting plate from the tweeters (remove screw and break weak glue bond)
4. Install Polk tweeter in factory location. Some people have glued the tweeter to the factory plate and then reattached the plate - I added some thick felt pads to the back of the tweeter and then 'wedged' the tweeter into the factory position.
5. Remove the factory bass driver from the door.
6. Remove the plastic speaker basket from the door.
7. Attach the adhesive foam gasket to the basket.
8. Install the Polk bass driver into the basket. It should just fit with a fraction of an inch of depth to spare.
9. Find a place to mount the crossover. I placed mine in the hollow compartment in the door panel using screws. Others have used the same location, but used double-sided foam tape.
10. Attach the tweeter wiring to the crossover tweeter output. Be sure to keep the polarity correct. Note that you won't be using the factory wiring that used to connect to the tweeter.
11. Attach the woofer wiring to the crossover woofer output, again keeping polarity correct.
12. Now for the 'tricky' part. You need to wire the crossover input into the factory speaker wiring. The easiest way to do this is to get a factory wiring harness adapter that will plug into the plug that used to connect to the factory bass driver. Then you connect these wires to the crossover input. Crutchfield sells these. You can also cut off the factory plug and solder/crimp in the wires going to the crossover.
13. Test the system. If you seem to lack bass, then check the polarity of the wiring. If the left and right speakers are out of phase, bass will be lacking.
14. Put everything back together
One 'nice' addition to this would be to put quick disconnects in the wires that connect the factory speaker wires to the crossover and the crossover to the bass driver. This will you to easily remove the door panel without having to remove the bass driver and disconnect wires.
Hope this helps.
