The rollhopp speakers are about 1" diameter. I am thinking about replacing them with 4 1" polk tweeters as the stock speakers are inaudible with the db6500's I put in. I think the Polks are so efficient that the rollhoop speakers are not loud enough to make a difference.

Dont do it. Your car will sound like a rattlesnake (tons of hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssss)

Dont replace them. Use them as fill only. There arent any real speakers that are one inch, and I cant help you anymore, since I have never even seen an 06, and dont know whats possible.

Actually I have some 1" "full range" drives that I am going to try from an ipod desk audio system..

they will likely suck.. but I'll try them anyways.

But I agree that putting good tweeters back there will be painful for your ears..

With the amp, I was thinking of mounting it in the trunk on the left of the spare tire. I'm not looking to expand to more speakers or a sub. Just a simple speaker upgrade so I don't need anything too complicated or 'advanced'.
This can be done - Just get a piece of wood and some carpet, and use tapping screws to connect it to the back of the trunk. Then just screw the amp tight to it (pre-drill while its not in the car).

ps - I had to pull out the left-most spare tire tack because the boad covers it. Now I just have to slide the piece out from behind the board if I need to get into the spare tire area.

Thank you all so much for your help. Keep them coming! I'm taking everything under consideration. I looked at the Polk db6500's yesterday. Right next to them were the MMC's and right next to those were the Infinity Kappa. I'll do more research on the amp, but I think I've picked the Kappas as speakers. (Thanks NFRs2000NYC for the links, especially for the Kappa one--or else I would have paid full price! I think I'll take up the offer on the help once I get everything settled.)

Saki, do you have more pictures of where/how you mounted the amp in the trunk?

I don't want to start anything until I have everything picked out and planned. Thanks again for all the help! Any more suggestions?

OK...OK...OK...

Because this is the newest thread in reference to amp, I'm going to take the heat by inserting my question here

I've seen so many different installation methods used for amps---I'm going nuts!!!
Some have installed them sideways, on it's feet, well-hidden, behind the driver's seat, you name it.

Can a freakin' amp genius out there tell us which method is the most efficient and safest way to install an amp in our S2K. I need to know the technical reasons behind the method why it is really the best way to install an amp as there are just so much info in our forum. I honestly don't know which one I should follow. FYI, I'm so "googled out" of my mind that I will need to go on disability

I'll be forever grateful for all your input.

the only issues I can think of with regard to amp placement are:
1) will it physically fit
2) will it take up space you want for something else
3) does the location appeal to you aesthetically
4) does it provide protection from rain
5) does it provide adequate ventilation for cooling
the last is of course the tricky question, and there's no one
answer that's correct because it depends on the design of the
amp and how hard you push it (not to mention whether you live
in Arizona or Montana).
an amp where the whole case serves as a heatsink might be unhappy
if any part of it had bad airflow, while and amp with side-mounted fins
might be fine with insulation right above it as long as the fins had good
airflow. some amps are designed so that air flows in the sides and out
the top, and may die if mounted upside down, while a fan-cooled amp
may be designed to work no matter its orientation. finally, the cooling
capacity of the amp is (well, should be!) designed to cool it at max
power output, so if you aren't pushing it anywhere near max it will have
cooling capacity to spare and may tolerate a less than ideal space.
