Yes you need an amp...you mention a budget...do you have a specific amount you want to spend?

I swear by the WLAURENT sub box. Read my review here:

I can't say how truly happy I am with this box. If I didn't have my Nitrous bottle on the other side, I would have two!

save your money and do it right with a jl stealth box other wise you wont be happy with some rigged set up and you will end up getting good shit in the long run and spend twice the money.

I hardly think the WLAURENT box is "rigged". I am not doubting the quality of the JL box, but it's not the only thing available... And it takes up way more room in the already small trunk. Plus with his few hundred dollar budget, the JL box will go over budget before he even THINKS about an amp.

You could buy an MDF box for under $100 or make one for $5, and use the leftover cash for the sub...The $350 or so you'll have lying around is a lot to play with...Heck, that's Brahma territory. Or the RE SE series, or, just to spite the Stealthbox, get a W6v2

Or like they all suggest, just get one of the WLaurent encosures and a ED 8A ...

There are plenty of options for the price...

I have a WLAURENT box and am very pleased with the results . If you are looking for some bass fill then I highly recommend this box. However, If you want to rattle the wheels off the car then this is not the choice, and you will not be able to achieve this with your budget. If you want the rattles then save your money.

I used to have a $100 10" sub and a $60 box just set in the tool well. The amp was $250. It was going very well until I switched amps, overpowered the sub and then it stopped thumpin. It wasn't rattling the car, it just sounded and felt good. Personally I think the stealthbox is overrated. I've heard it in another S and my sub/box combo now sounds much better for less than a stealthbox.
