Both things you've said aren't true.

I had a Euro headunit from 02 and it received FM perfectly, only AM was suspect. Most AM stations worked.

Also this adaptor that I have works perfectly with my new US model 9855 headunit.

I'm not sure if the S2000 adaptor is discontinued but Alpine Europe still says its available on their site.
