New speakers are shrill and tinny, Help!
I just had brand new speakers installed in my S2k yesterday. My current setup is as follows:
Speakers: Pioneer TS-D1720C 6.75" (new)
Amplifier: Pioneer GM-3500T 400W (new)
Head unit: Pioneer DEH-3200UB (was in car when I bought it)
Audio source: HTC One M8 smartphone
Extra: I hushmatted the doors recently.
I really don't know much about car audio so I hope you guys can point me in the right direction with what to fix first. The radio is unplayable, it sounds so tinny. I stepped it up and tried my HTC One and Spotify. Once I had flattened the EQ on both the stereo and phone, jazz and blues started to sound really nice, though vocals are somewhat harsh. Trance/dubstep is decent sounding, bass distorts past a certain volume and one friend suggested a new head unit. Some rock and metal are unplayable like the radio, and there are some ear piercing shrills from some of my favorite hi-pitched tracks ie Judas Priest. I was reading reviews that this may be caused by the crossover. Where should I start?? How does my equipment list look? Thanks.
Update - I moved the tweeter wire to -3 db and the system sounds more balanced. Do I need a new head unit is mine okay? Curious also about why I only need one amplifier and crossover on the passengers side, how is the drivers side affected?
