Please explain independence...
I'm no expert on this sort of thing, but I thought you should at least have the correct term so your question will be more accurate. I think you want to know about "impedence". This, for speakers and amps, is measured in ohms (or resistence).

You will want more resistance if your amp calls for it. Some amps are not stable at lower impediances, and require 4-ohms to operate. Also, the lower the ohm, the hotter the amp will get (as its working harder). Some people like to run their amps cool for efficiency reasons.
