Possibility of sub in spare tire

Anybody tried this? I wasn't going to get a sub because I went with Focals in the front and a 520 watt amp. I get a surprising amount of bass from these - more than enough for most people - but I can't help thinking what a sub would do for me. My amp is mounted above my tools with a 3/4" board covered in trunk carpet above it. I didn't want a sub there for two reasons: I like to use my trunk for golf clubs etc. and didn't like the possibility of damage to the exposed sub. Secondly, my installer insists that the spare tire is a far better location sonically. So, not knowing anything about tuned boxes etc., I'm looking for opinions on this.
Are you thinking of removing the spare first?
BTW, you can get a grill to protect the sub from the golf clubs and then you can put it in the well. I dont think your going to have a lot of room in the spare tire location for a sub with the tire there or not.

No, I'll do without the sub before I do without the spare.
I was hoping to hear as well as feel the sub. It seems to me (and I'm certainly no expert) that you would get more "sound" from the spare tire location. Maybe it's time to look for a location in the passenger footwell if there isn't enough room in the spare.
Thanks for the response.

A couple of people have done this with sealed 8" subs -- but yes, you do have to get rid of the spare tire
I'm pounding a 10" AVI SL-S in the tool well in a custom ported box, using a PPI PC2400.2 (400Wx1 @ 4 ohms RMS) and it pounds pretty hard!
My installer also did a couple of "bass promoting" mods like the ones I was talking about in the "To sub or not to sub..." thread, which helped out a lot too!

I have a Pioneer custom fit sub that used to fit in the space saver spare tire of one of my previous cars. I believe it will fit quite nicely in the S2000s spare too but would need to check that. Its only a small driver but provided quite a nice bass fill, easy to drive too...
I'll dig it out and post back.

JL audio makes a sub specifically for the S2000. I have one. It sounds fantastic. It goes in the area for the tools. You lose very little room, the tools will definatley fint inside the spare tire, i wrapped the jack in a towel, and got pouches for the tire iron and the jack tool, they all fit in the spare tire plus a set of jumper cables. thesub is protected by a grille and the whole thing looks almost stock
