Talking Pretty Good Bass for the $$$

For those of you who want decent bass on a shoe-string budget, I have had a good experience with the Visonic 10" Bass Package.

It is a small box containing a 10" Sub and a separate mono channel amp. The box says 350 watts, I think that is optimistic peak, more probably 80 or 90 watts, (25 amp fuse). I have been using this unit in my S2000 for almost three months with no problems and great bass fill. The amp is equipped with high level and low level inputs. I am using the low-level inputs daisy chained from my Hifonic amp.

The bass is not strong enough to really rattle, but that is not what I want. I used the info from the Crutchfield site for tuning the sub and it worked great. I reduced the directionality by using frequencies less than 100 hz, so now the bass is strong and does not seem to come from one area of the car. My Kenwood 6-1/2 front components provide good mid-bass to help.

I have tuned it to fill out the bottom end. Along the lines of my home system.

The package is on special at Pep Boys for $70 (then less $10 for rebate). I bought a second one to install in my wife's Miata. One of these days I will be able to afford a bigger built in system, but right now. This works great as long as you know its limitations and know how to tune it. The owner's manual is useless, go with Crutchfield article on subwoofers.

The box is small and does not take up too much room in the trunk. Besides, it works and the price is right!

Good Sounds,

Chris
