The Co-pres of SSA recommended I put four or so handlefulls in the box, to help give the sub a better working area.
Ok.

Sounds like (no pun intended) he felt the enclosure volume was slightly too small.

I put some in there, but have yet to test it out. I was correct with my assumption that something was knocking on the bottom of the box.... But all I'll say was it wasn't my speaker wire.... More details to come when I post pictures. Planned on doing it tonight, but taking some lucky lady out Also not too sure what I think of the speaker box quality. Not trying to bad mouth, but the MDF ring seems like it's falling apart already, and when I look through the box, I see a lot of light coming through the corners and edges, but I'll post pictures of that.

I'll try to post them tomorrow. Got everything reinstalled. Somehow (By purchasing extra wire locally (It's Orange Memphis 4 Ga to use to power my SAX-1500, and also ground it)) I ended up with enough wire I think to do the Big 3! I Only need like two 8 Ga ring terminals (Rockford fosgate terminals bought at bestbuy), and two 4 ga ring terminals (Going to but at best buy), and I'll have enough wire and terminals to do the 3 big.)

Should have my pictures up by tomorrow night. Overall EXTREMELY happy with how things turned out. I was pretty disappointed at first, but REALLY pleased now. Still have to do some tinkering with my door panels, and install that mother ****** passenger door grommet (****** HATE that thing) but overall I'm considering the project completed (With the exception of the big 3, which I would consider an add-on project).

Thanks for the help guys. Sounds A LOT more balanced that I started tweaking with my Component amp, and balance thing out better. Like I said, Overall EXTREMELY happy.

Instead of spending the money on Best Buy terminals, hit up Lowe's or Home Depot. In the electrical section, there should be copper terminals.

Sorry I haven't posted the pictures. Been having problem after problem at my house. Frozen water line, dog having a stroke, diesel gelling in my truck. Blah.

But now I seem to have another problem I noticed last night... My tweeters sound like they're blown. Anytime the bass hits, I hear my tweeters crackle. I have NO IDEA about what would cause this, since they're running through the PPI cross over. Going to do some more listening today, and see what's up. Worse case scenario I can warranty them.

Sounds like a rough week!

On the speakers, that sounds like an odd problem. Could there be a short or a wire that gets crossed? Seems wierd. I hope it's not too hard to figure out.

Maybe you could come up with a way to separate the bass impact from the big current draw? Maybe you can pull the crossovers and run the tweeters only, HPF through the amp, to see if the crossover might be part of the problem?

On a larger scale, I mean simply to think of ways to decouple all the unique elements / conditions / broken things that could separately explain a crackling.

Good luck with it--I hope it doesn't take too much of your time to figure out! And having a warranty is a wonderful thing for these types of issues...

^^One of the reasons I advocate running an active system.

If your xovers are letting too much bass through (which happens in a passive system), you'll hear it in your tweeters...

Ok, first thing I would do is drop your Sub volume on the HU to 0 and the bass boost to 0. Let the gain on the amp do it's thing to make the bass louder, not the HU or boost (the amp is far more effective/efficient and you'll have better SQ for it). Bass boost, of any kind - amp or HU, has a specific frequency that it boosts. Using this boost can negatively affect the bass as you're boosting only a small part of the frequency range (usually around 60hz or so) - making the bass boomy or seemingly intermittent as the bass plays outside the boosted range.
On the Alpine, the sub level control "cuts" the output level. So setting 15 is "flat" while setting to 0 is -15db. Wouldn't it be best to set the amp gain based on the flat setting on the HU, then dial back the HU control as needed during playback? Otherwise, setting the gain based on the 0 setting (-15db) would lead to setting the amp gain too high I would think.

Sorry everyone. Been busy with a ton of stuff. School started so I'm trying to juggle everything.

It seems like I hear the noise only on certain songs, so I'm not sure why.

Still need to:
1) Sound deaden and stop the vibration in the doors.
2) Try to stop the crossover covers from vibrating (They seal REALLY shitty, They'll vibrate even driving across a rough road, or if I hit a bump)
3) Big 3 install. Maybe do that this upcoming Monday, since I don't have school.
4) Post pictures. I want to apologize for not having them up yet. I'll do my best when I get a chance.

Good job on the install thread Ace. Looks good!
