Default Putting 2" tweeter in newer AP2's factory door location?

I took my door panels off today to start installing my components, and realized that the factory tweeter is 1" while the ones from my Polk SR6500 set are 2". It's a 2008, so it has those sort of tear-drop shaped tweeter grills on it. I think I could technically mount my tweeters behind the factory grills, but the hole in the grill for the sound to come through is not as big as the new tweeters, so I'm sure that would mess up the sound.

It seems my only option will be to cut a 2" hole in the factory grill and use the Polk flush-mount hardware to put the tweeter in it that way. Anyone done this? I've browsed through threads here for about 45 minutes now, and searched Google Images for "s2000 tweeter", but can't find any pics of where anyone has done this.

Thanks in advance

Ah, thanks...well, that's one option. Maybe I could take a small drill bit and drill additional holes in the grill there to expand the effective pass-through area to match my tweeter's size. I'd like to keep everything looking as stock as possible, and flush-mounting the tweeter through the grill itself would definitely look aftermarket.

I like the sound of your plan. It will take quite a bit of patience, but I think the final result will look good.

I started on this this afternoon, and you're definitely right about the patience part. I found a drill bit exactly the same size as the grill holes (they're quite small) and use a Dremel tool to drill out an extra set of holes all the way around, plus the solid spots that go across the center. The problem is that the plastic gets really mess on the back side where the drill bit comes through...most of new holes are not clean all the way through. So, I've spent hours with a blade and a round file and some other tools trying to make all the new holes unobstructed all the way through.

The other problem I've run into is that the outside edge of the new holes gets chafed a little by the drill bit, causing the color to change from black to a little bit gray. When the grill is viewed from any angle, this makes the pattern of the new holes I drilled stand out. I spun a Sharpie marker in each new hole a little...it made them a little too black, but less noticeable than the gray.

I'll post pics when I finish...so far I'm not thrilled with how it's turning out, but I still think it's better than the alternatives.

So here's the result with one done...you can see from the gap that the factory holes are already a little oversized for the OEM tweeter, so I only needed to drill out one row of holes to get them out to the size of the new tweeter.

It just looks...off...the circle doesn't look like as much of a circle, and the color from the Sharpie isn't right...kinda blueish...but I think once both sides are done and they're in the car, it won't be noticeable to anyone but me...and won't tip off a would-be thief that there's aftermarket stereo stuff inside.

I'm happy that I was able to reuse the OEM mounting plate and posts, so the new tweeters' alignment is the same as the factory ones, which Honda presumably spent a lot of time and money optimizing. And using those thin washers as shims, I was able to get the tweeter right up close to the backside of the grill without touching it.

Thanks...unfortunately I got a chance to look at it in broad daylight today, and it looks considerably worse...the color is definitely messed up. If this was a sedan where the interior would always be kinda dark, it might be ok, but since it's a convertible, I'm gonna have to do something to make it look better. I think I'm gonna try to mask off the outer edge of the pod and then spray paint all the grill area with some flat black paint.
