Default Q's about fuses

I recently took out my cd/dvd player out of the S2K. It had a wire harness set up so that was cake. I plug back in the old player. It works fine for about a week. Then all of sudden driving around it turns off. The red light still blinks but nothing else happens.

To make things more weird it turns on yesterday for about 5 seconds and then shuts off again.

I have a MY01. I wanted to know what fuses I need to replace to see if that is the problem. I don't want to put back in the dvd player but I will if the factory isn't going to work.

Thanks for the help.

If it came on again, even for a short time, it's not a fuse. Make sure your radio doesn't the same problems as the TSB for the older radios (typically it shuts off under high volume after a few minutes). There were a number of bum radios out there...

It did end up being the ACC fuse I don't remember the exact same one but there are two ACC fuses. This was a 10 amp mini red fuse. I didn't get any replies and spent some time on the search forum. It turns out someone else had the exact same problem.

I pulled the fuses and it was definetely that. I bought a new fuse put it in and the radio came to life.

Are you sure the radio came back on, then (the actual audio portion)? The blinking red light is on a different fuse than the main power for the radio, but I cannot fathom a way the radio could actually produce sound if the fuse was blown... there's just no way for power to make it to the audio section.

Could the fuse have the same effect as a light bulb that burns out. Its hard to explain but with the light whatever makes the connections are still working a bit but once they get totally burned away its out for good.

Maybe the connection with the fuse was not totally seperated.

I don't know but the sound did come on for about five seconds. I remember because I thought it was a fluke and I was all excited. Once it went out again I had a bad feeling thinking it was the radio. When I pulled the fuse I could see the middle was totally gone. I put in the new fuse and it has been great since then.

It's possible that a small portion of the melted fuse fell back into the middle, but it's unlikely... still, the possibility is there.

I guess now we wait for the fuse to blow again?
