Default Question: too much power to my sub?

Here is the deal. I have had a Punch 800 2 channel amp that runs 200 RMS watts to 2 channels at 4 ohms. I also have a 250 watt JL 12w3d2 sub (DVC) that i plan on powering with the punch. (i previously had that amp on 2 JL 15w3s and it worked great.) Now for the questions...

Should i run the sub off of just one of the channels so i dont overpower the sub...

Should i bridge the amp and run the sub in mono with the gain turned WWWAAAAYYY down...

Should i not run this combination ( This is the one i dont want to hear )

Thanks for your help. tell me if u need any more info.

i was going to ask whether the sub was the 12w3-d2 or the 12w3v2-d2...

but either way, if you drive them w/ the amp bridged mono, you're well into the 'warranty void' area for each sub.

use only one channel of the amp to drive the sub. that would place you right at what JL is showing as the 'sweet spot' for power to the sub.

still, that's a huge amp to keep in your trunk and then only use 1/2 of it's abilities.

you might be able to run it mono w/ the gains turned way down, but i'm definitely not going to be the one to tell you that you can... i'd hate to be responsible for the death of that little w3.

I still think W3s are some of the best subs ever made. I've seen and worked with people who did unspeakable acts to W3s and they held up.

A W3 can handle well over the recommended power rating assuming a couple conditions are met. First of all, a quality box must be used. No pre-made, plywood, or cheap boxes can be used. Only well-designed, built, and braced MDF or medite boxes. Quality components and cables must be used. No cheap swap meet equipment and Bargain Barn cables.

A lot of people may disagree with me on this, but JL subs can handle well over what they're rated. I didn't believe it either until I've worked with them for the past several years.
