Subwoofer watts question
I have the S2K subwoofer trunk enclosure and I want to get a 12-inch sub for it. I already have a Rockford Fosgate 2-CH 200W max amp now. I was told I should get a sub that has the similar watt max/range as my amp. Is this true? If so, why? I was looking at a 1200W Infiniti sub, but the sales guy recommended me to get a Rockford Fosgate P1 Punch 300W max/ 150W RMS sub for my setup for $90. Was he right? Will it still sound somewhat good with decent deep bass?
Personally i do not look at the Watts I look at the RMS.. But then again I buy mostly JL Audio...
If you have a 200w amp and a 1200w sub the amp is not going to be able to push the sub. You will need a more powerful amp or like the guys said a less powerful sub.
