k40 , descret , you never would know it's there.... it has a front and rear detection so you can tell where it's coming from... has a laser jammer to keep those tickets away... will be pay tickets 4 one year after purchase.

how is it discreet?

that brings up another question i had. what is this i'm reading about "hard wiring" a radar detector? is there some way to mount one in a hidden location while accessable to the driver with like radar sensor wires to pick up signals around tha car?

yes that's what the K40 is.... the radar sensors go behind the front and rear bumper , and all that is inside the cab is 2 small LED's to tell you if it's front or rear radar detection , and then there's also a small speaker that goes under the knee bolster

valentine 1 is the best, but its expensive, and it sounds like the cheapest option for you is to save gas, leave a little earlier, and slow down

well i'm a punk-ass 18 year old kid so as much as i'd like to leave a little earlier and take my time, you can't tell me nothin. lol. i seem to be incappable of slowing down and takin my time... i'd end up leavin earlier and sayin to myself "watch this, i'm gonna make great time!" lol.

but how would someone go about hardwiring a radar detector and is it only some that can be done like this or is it possible on a few of them?

I agree with your assessment... you were asking about a radar detector and this is an s2000 board... are people really saying they ALWAYS drive the speed limit in their s2k (or any car). You asked about a radar detector, not for advice to slow down. You can get a ticket at any point, not just going down the highway... and speed limits aren't always intuitive. Sometimes they make no sense... sometimes they're too high and sometimes too low.

I just drove my 04' s2000 from Dallas to Houston (just bought it in Dallas and live in Houston) and took my valentine1 with me. I exited the highway in Waco and took a left turn onto Baylor campus. Immediately my radar detector went off. There was a cop there in a 30mph zone. I certainly would have gotten a ticket as 30 is pretty slow... especially when you just bought an s2000...

I strongly recommend a valentine1 because of the range, showing the number of signals, AND most importantly, showing WHERE it's coming from... Before my valentine1, I had 4 tickets in 4 years... WITH cheap radar detectors... since then I haven't gotten a ticket in 7 years.

On radar detectors, like many other things, you definitely get what you pay for.

No radar detector is a guarantee.

I own a cordless Sensoro Silver Bullet. I'm not sure if you can still get them or not, I've had it for 4 years. It cost me less than $150 and has never let me down. Plus there's no need to hardwire. A decent brand of batteries will last a few months.

Beltronics Vector 940, good quality, $129... seems to work pretty well for me so far, but direct sunlight around sunrise or sunset seems to set off "laser" once in a while.

I prefer Valentine 1 simply because of the arrows if nothing else.

I seem to get less "false alarms" then my friends and knowing if the threat is behind you and not 2 miles up helps your paranoia / peace of mind
