I would strongly suggest that you wouldn't purchase something from ebay since most radar detectors from there are refurbs and the sellers don't communicate well.
I've got a beltronics rx65 and love it. After passport bought out beltronics, they copied the rx65, made the passport 8500, and put their own firmware on it. Its basically the same except for the rx65 has USA mode for KA(the hardest band to detect) which many people like. USA mode scans only USA used KA bands so it will detect KA faster. Faster= more reaction time. I've had a 2 mile corner KA alert from mine.
Yes, the valentine 1 is hands down the most sensitive radar detector for distance. There is no comparison. The only problem with it is that the filter works worth shit. In other words, your local wally world will set it off always and it'll false alot if you live in the city. Its best for highway use. My rx65 never gives me falses in the city so I always know when it goes off, its real.
Make sure you stay away from cobra, rocky moutain radar(many lawsuits for false jammers), and all no name radar detectors. Some whistlers are decent.
If you see a cop to the side of the road on your trip dead ahead of you and your detector isn't going off, slam on your brakes. He's lasering you or gonna hit you with instant on radar. The laser beam is only 18 inches wide at 400 yards so it is very difficult to detect laser unless you drop about 500 dollars for a blinder jammer. Almost always, it alerts you too late and basically tells you, "YOU'RE ****ED."
If you're tight on money, radio shack used to have an exclusive beltronics radar detector, I beleive it was the 895 or 995. It was less than 200 dollars and had near performance to the rx65, but with not as good filtering(aka it'll set off to walgreens and stuff)
I used to be hardcore into this stuff about a year ago so the times could have changed with firmware upgrades. If you have anymore questions PM me and I'll help you.

If you're interested in a laser jammer check out the forums at mazda6club. There's a massive buy being put together for Laser Interceptors. I'd also recommend checking out the radar detector and laser jammer forum sites.
with the jammer, what is the point of the "2 heads in front" thing? i don't get it. i was thinking about getting one for my s but i won't be driving it for a few months and i'll need one for my truck but this is such a discount on that mazda6 messageboard that i'd love to go ahead and get one for each but i'm not sure what i would need... the radar detector, i can move from truck to car back to truck quite easily but this is a bit different since it's mounted in the bumper...
i would like some information about laser jammers and what they do and all that business... it may be a lot for me to pay right now, but it wouldn't take long to pay off seeing as before september, i averaged a ticket every 2 months and at least 70% of those tickets were speeding...
and i'm payin for it now on my insurance...
can you say $6,000-$8,000 every 6 months drivin my s? yea i screwed myself early on...

heres a good site that will show you how each radar detector and also each laser jammer will perform against the majority of police radar and laser guns
Guys of Lidar
Also, if you are buying a laser jammer, in some states, its illegal and newer guns will tell the officer if its being jammed. Radar jammers are junk and go out of sync and also will land you a $1500 FCC fine if caught.
Blinder laser jammers and ALG are the best. Also, don't forget to put some Veil on your headlights and license plate. It absorbs the light from the laser so it will help with jamming. I can't remember if these are diode type jammers or not...
You also want at least 2 heads on the front of your car. Near each headlight. Get it professionally installed or else it will not save you. Officers are taught to shoot the laser at the headlights and license plate since they are the most reflective items on the car. A jammer will basically detect the laser being shot with the heads since they are near where the officers will shoot your vehicle and then they send out their own light which distorts the laser light making it not register back to the gun at the correct light frequency. In other words, it will make the laser gun ignore the light coming back and either nothing will show on his screen or it will show a modified jam code.
You do not need the 4 head kits. Only if you're very anal. I would say less than 2% of cops shoot laser towards the rear of cars. Its easier to tell someone to pull over rather than have to chase up and get them to pull over.

listen if u want to really not get caught by cops there is two solutions.
1. dont drive fast.
2. My personal choice. Buy the V1... will catch any cop with a radar gun (even though turns). and than 2nd buy the m45 bilnder laser jammer for $670. Those two things will save you thousands.
