Default Radar detector, installation question

Since I am about getting a radar detector and since here in Greece is illegal to use one, I would like to have your comments/views, to the following.
I am thinking to remove the sensor(s) from the detector unit, and place it somewhere near the front bumper and hide the main unit under the drivers seat or above the passenger's feet area. can this be done? should I use a "special" wire to connect the sensor to the unit? loss of power? any thoughts about it, please!!

I know that the best solution is to get a radar detector which come into 2 parts already and don't have to split it myself, but I going to buy bel rx65 that come into one piece!

thanks in advance

Sorry if this idea has been disccused before, I did a search and found nothing similar.

You may want to read this on the V1 site about separating their antennas from the main unit: http://www.valentine1.com/lab/Previously1.asp

Remember that the cases also act as shielding on the better units. So, just be aware that you may compromise the performance of the unit.

Just buy a detector designed for this type of install
