Radar Detectors
I just had to make the same decision. The best ones on the market as we speak are the Passport 8500 x50, 9500i, Valentine 1, passport zr3, zr4. (im not a fan of any BEL product but the high end ones are decent
) I was sold on the 8500 x50 after borrowing a friends for a road trip. However after doing lots of research I decided not to forget about the V1 and the 9500i (even though there twice as much as what the 8500 x50 can be had for). In the end I dropped the x50 off my list completely and decided between the v1 and the 9500i. The V1 seemed to always pick up threats a bit sooner then the 9500i but at the expense falsing a lot more. Last week I bought a V1 with the latest software which add pop 2 and is not suppose to false near as much. I've had it in my car for two days now and yes it does false ALOT! It did however pick up a Ka signal from a police damn near 3 quarters of a mile out though.
The zr3 and the zr4 are dedicated laser detector/jammers from passport. Although I remain a bit skeptical all the research I've done on this shows that they work more often then not which is usually reversed when talking about jammers. I ordered a zr3 when I bought the V1 and turns out it was out of stock so I canceled the order planning on getting the newer zr4 instead. Keep in mind that both the zr3 and 4 are both remote mounts meaning that the sensors have to be installed outside the car, two for the front bumper and one for the rear.
**You can't go wrong with any of the above mentioned units there all really really good. The only problem I foresee is the volume when the radios turned up and the top is down.

Not shittin on anyone's decisions. But I think arrows are useless. Who cares where its coming from? if the radar is going off whether its front, back, left, right--- its time to slow down. the info is just not worth an extra $100 to me
That being said I went with an Escort 8500 x50 and over the last 3-4 years that I've had it, I've never gotten a ticket where I wasn't hit with laser.
The thing has saved my ass so many times that I swear by it.
As far as the lack of protection from laser, I just purchased the Zr4 jammer from escort. All revews say that its leaps and bounds better with protection than the Zr3 beacuse of all the new laser guns out.
Its actually getting installed on my prelude right now (since I use that car for all my long trips which are about every other weekend)
I'll report here to see how it works out. I'm tired of FHP and their uselessness.

Either way you'll be happy, 8500 x50
, 9500i
, v1
.
till a trooper pulls a laser gun, then u might as well bend over because by the time ANY of these detectors go off... its too late.

Here's a video testing the laser sensitivity on the v1, note that the laser was not pointed any where near the direction of the detector.Valentine 1 vs. laser
Here's a video of a stealth laser being tested on the 8500 x50 and the V1. 8500 x50 vs. V1

u sir would have picked up the Ka, slowed down, seen the first cop you passed and i would presume speed back up. cuase you have no clue that the Ka your picking up is also another guy up front. you would presume that the signal your still picking up is the cop you just passed. correct me if im wrong.
anyone that has not lived with the arrows will hate on them. they look at it as a gimmic. bottom line, it keeps you more informed and can save your ass.
ditton on laser though. thankfully not many departments pony up for them
