Thumbs up Rainbow Audio Components

The car audio store I visit frequently asked if I had ever heard these german car speakers. He installed my Focal Utopias and knows how much I love them, so he thought that I might have come across them in my travels. I haven't.

He mentioned that they were just starting to pick up dealers in the US. They had approached his store asking if he was interested in carrying them. The owner hasn't found anywhere to listen to them yet.

I curious to hear whether anyone has had any first hand experience doing A/B listening tests with the upper end of the Rainbow (aka RAC) line.

Rainbow makes incredible speakers. They are a total waste of money in an s2000. Youll never hear their benefit. They are made for islolated quiet cars like an LS430 lexus or something. They are in the top 5 for sure.

Thanks for the reply. Does that mean you have actually been able to A/B them? If so, do they have any distinctive qualities over other speakers I might know?

Yes, ive actually installed a pair on an m5. Their construction is second to none. They look like they were built by a jeweler. Their sound reproduction is exceptionally accurate, and their customer service is very good (although their english is not.) If you have the money, they are great, just not for an s2000. it really is a waste of money. Its like putting a $100,000 sound system for a P.A. system in a NYC subway. If you really are going to go the $$$/quality route, check these out, they are probably in the top 3 speakers you can buy for your car.....

Remember tho, if you are spending this much on speakers, youll need grade A headunit and grade A amps.....which is even more money....you are looking at about 2000-2800 of equipment....amazing equipment, but nevertheless.

Let me know if you need any more help, I have a decent amount of "seat time" with both of these speakers.

a response from my friend in Germany

"Oh yeah, everything is ok and yes we are waiting for spring as well (I guess for the same reasons)...

Concerning the speakers I have asked one of my colleagues. He uses Kicker amps and Focal speakers and can recommend Rainbow speakers but there are 2 series. The more expensive one is really reference class! But the price is reference as well. From home speakers and amps I have learned that U.S. American sound is different to the sound most Germans prefer. There are many discussions in magazines concerning Mark Levinson, JBL and Martin Logan. But in a car this difference should not be an issue...

Wishing you all the best!

Martin"

there ya go...
