the stereo shop is refusing to wire the tweeters in the roll bars without crossovers or their own crossable amp. They insist I will damage the tweeters if not the headunit. They also insist that the sound will be horrible. I want to run them off the eclipse headunit.

Can I wire these up to the headunit or not? 4 ohm tweeters.

Thanks!

Ken

If using two channels only, then don't bother. You'll either have to wire them for an 8 ohm load and won't hear much, or you'll wire them for 2 ohm load and shutdown the amp. Basically, what I had already said above.

I'm confused. How much power is needed to run 4 little tweeters at partial volume wired at 2 ohm? The Eclipse headunit's 50 watt amp is not enough

I thought people had posted about having put tweeters in given the lack of full range speakers that will fit. I can't believe that they used a 4 channel amp for the rear tweeters.

The shop is concerned about crossover frequency, but I think my Eclipse cd7100 should allow me to set the hp crossover. Maybe I'm missing something. These tweeters range 1,9 to 22khz. Crossover on the headunit is as follows:

Crossover: High-pass filters (HPF) and low-pass filters (LPF) can be applied to the speaker and preamp outputs. The slopes for the crossovers can be set to 6dB, 12dB, 18dB per octave, 24dB per octave, or Pass (no crossover).
4-Speaker Layout: You can apply an LPF on the non-fading output and an HPF on the front and rear outputs. You can select a cut-off frequency between 63Hz and 10kHz for the HPF and 20Hz to 200Hz for the LPF.
3-Speaker Layout: You can select a High band HPF/Mid band LPF and a Mid band HPF/Low band LPF. Cutoff frequencies for the M-LPF/Hi can be set between 200Hz and 10kHz. The cutoff frequencies for the Mid-HPF/Low are 20Hz to 200Hz.

It's not an issue of power at 2 ohm. The HU's amp is designed to have a 4 ohm load, putting a 2 ohm load on it will overheat the amp and cause it to shutdown (at best).

I understand what Dave is saying. What I don't understand is what solutions people used who have installed tweeters. Did you use a 4 channel amp for the tweeters? Did you find a way to make the load 4 ohm at the headunit?

Use four 8 ohm speakers instead of four 4 ohm speakers.

8 ohm speakers that fit and sound good from where?

I have the components in and the OEM rollbar speakers wired to it. I can't hear the rollbar speakers unless I fade way back, at which point I can't hear the fronts well. Rear oem speakers are useless, factory or aftermarket headunit.

sorry for reviving an old thread, but i had a question about these

I was thinking about picking up a set of MB quart QTD 25 tweeters for each roll bar and running them off of a RF 400/4 amp and would also power the MB Quart setup i have installed right now in the doors. I left the rollbar speakers alone when i installed the other and basically just waited until they blew..and they did. Anyone have any idea on how this would sound, not sure if theres enough midrange..?
