It sure is. A ribbon cable will suffice. On many head units with a flip down face, there is a switch that you will have to lock down on the radio front (not the faceplate) for the display to work which tells the radio that the faceplate is present and flipped up. Some displays turn off when you flip the front down (I think Pioneers do... at least the older ones.) So, just verify that.

What HU are you doing this to? and where are you going to remote mount the faceplate? and one more... where are you going mount the rest of the unit?

well i just bought a xenarc screen, and was planning on fiberglassing a jdm nav bracket. But, my buddy is planning on selling his pioneer or panasonic flip-out for cheap and i was just going to buy it, seperate it, and put the screen in the dash and the headunit in the normal spot. is there a tutorial anywhere, or how would i buy a certain ribbon for it? the ribbon itself would have to be around 3-4 ft. oh, and i suck at soldering lol

Well basically you have all the info. As far as I know no one here has done that yet You'll be the first I think.

With that said I would practice a lot before you take that HU apart. Are you doing the entire install yourself? Anything is possible if you have enough cash to correct your mistakes and if you have the steel nuts to try something new. I would say look at it very carefully. If you take the screen off the unit what's left will still want to move when you insert a CD into the deck so you may have to take that all apart as well. In doing so you might destroy the HU you may be able to just cut the wires that control the mechanism. Just check out the whole thing out before you start cutting things apart
