SoundStream Tarantula Mounting?
Is anyone running a Tarantula 500.4 in their system. If so, which way did you mount this giant monster. I was going to mount it vertically but the L shaped brackets extend to far out to mount vertically. Let me know what other ways you guys have come up with. I might just have to mount it flat on the floor of the trunk, and cover up the tool area to make if flush with the sides.

There's also a flat vertical amp rack/board made/sold by a member that removes the bulge from the spare tire (once it's removed) that will allow you to mount across the whole trunk.
How'd you fare in the hurricanes?
The amp is way to big to fit horizantally in the spare tire well. I was going to mount it Vertically, but the width of the amp including the mounting brackets is too high. I have decided to just make a cover for the tool well to make it flush with the rest of the trunk, then just mount the amp dead center in the trunk. It will be the first and only thing you see when you open the trunk, the huge chrome tarantula. There is basically no other way to mount it. I dont use my trunk that often, so I really don't mind. If worse comes to worse and I need trunk space then I have to use another car. I can actually now that I think about it try and build a vertical amp rack that is angled to allow the room for it to fit. Back to planning. As for the hurricanes, not one of the 50 hurricanes did any damage down in Miami. I hope it stays that way until the end of hurricane season. Hey quick question, I was reading the manual on the amp the other day, and they suggest running the ground wire from the amp all the way back to the negative terminal of the battery. I dont recall ever seeing that before. Is that something that is required, or can i just do it the standard way of grounding it in the trunk.
Edit: Oh yeah, there's no way that will fit vertically.
My Tarantula and PPI amps have their ground running back to the engine bay. I didn't wire them myself so hopefully someone else on the board can enlighten us as to why that's done.

I don't see a reason to run a ground up to the amp - but make sure you ground with the same diameter cable you use for power. Also make sure you fuse on both sides of the firewall - battery side and amp side.

Hey JD,
I have everything already, but I am out of town until Nov 1 so I wont be able to start until then. I have actually decided to send back the Tarantula and go with the Van Gogh Series instead. The Tarantula is just too big. The van gogh has identical specs and its much smaller not to mention about $300 less. I will use that money saved to order the Alphasonik 8" sub and a wlaurent box. I will wait to see what the manual for the van gogh says, if its recommends grounding back to the battery then I will, no point in going cheap this far along in the install.
