Speaker/Amp Recommendations
I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS receiver with some old speakers that were in the car when I purchased it (not sure about model numbers, not fancy stuff). For Christmas I would like to upgrade my speakers. I have Lucid panels behind the seats and OEM position door speakers. I am not planning to put in a subwoofer and would like the speakers to be concealed (tweeter and crossover part of the speakers) as much as possible. What speakers do you recommend for my situation? What do you recommend to power the speakers that can fit under one of the seats?
Thanks in advance!

what's your budget?
if $600-ish is ok for speakers, i hear focals are one of the sure bets, but claus and others would be a better source. i'm looking for more like ~$300 components. i've got the same deck and am at the same stage. i'll probably add a sub down the road though.
others, please correct me if any of this is wrong. i think it's all correct though.
a class D amp will most likely be smaller than an A/B and it will use less power, but it probably won't sound as clean. alpine's pdx line is pretty popular. you might also want to consider putting the amp right under the soft top's undertray if you aren't dead set on under the seat.
SPEAKERS, under ~$300
one of the best deals right now is the ppi set--they had a long thread on it here. if you want to run passive (meaning using the crossovers that come with the components instead fo the HU and amp), it's a great set for the money--they took a much more expensive set's design and remade it for almost nothing. i thought it was around $100-$150, but it was well under $200 for the set anyways.
sputniks and a lot of the folks at diyma recommend the seas line of speakers or several of the other products from madisound.com. they have frequency response plots for most of the speakers--it looks like really nice SQ equipment. some of it is home audio stuff, but people use it anyway.
hertz has a component set that most people like. hsk's? they have several lines. the ~$300 one is apparently worth about that.
diyma folks say the pioneer 720prs component set has very good midbass for the money--that's a big plus if you want to avoid a sub. the tweeter is just ok; a lot of people replace it (ie with the seas tweeter from madisound).
you'd probably want a 4 channel amp for any of those but the ppi speakers--you'd amp the speakers and tweeters separately in network mode. by skipping the crossovers you get a bit more performance out of your amp and you can fine-tune the crossover point to your liking.

Piggybacking on Ace's post, I'd recommend looking into a 4-chan amp and running active. You already have the HU to do so, so there's really no reason not to.
Running active will increase the sound quality and allow you to tune your woofers to get more bass.
I'm curious why you're set against a subwoofer? Even the best 7 1/2" woofers won't come close to covering everything you're going to miss without a sub...

I am looking for basic coaxial speakers.
Does anyone have experience with these MB Quart Premium PVI216?
http://www.amazon.com/MB-Quart-PVI216-Comp...59457700&sr=8-7
Will top mount depths of 2.5" have any problems fitting into the doors?
I am looking for clarity, not booming sound.
Or these Boston Acoustics SR65?

no, havent heard either. but neither of those will provide you as high quality sound as the others suggested, assuming SQ is what you're after. the two you listed are in a lower tier of performance than the ones i suggested.
if bright and loud treble is clarity, the quarts will probably provide that, but that's not the same thing as SQ. and the boston pro 60s are a better buy than the coaxials; one of the members has those installed. those might be in the same tier as the hertz set.

look at the tempo or dotech ovation components. they go pretty low 40-50hz in the range and they have good staging properties.
I sell these speakers at the shop I work at and im planning on getting a set for my car. and when I get a s2k i will move them over to that car also.
morel has been making speakers since 1975 and they have gotten pretty damn good at it.
