Sub and Amp suggestion
I currently have an Alpine 9857 deck with older model alpine Type-r components. I am looking to add an amp and a 10" sub this season, possibly building some type of small stealth box on the drivers side of the trunk or tool well. I was looking at these two options:
JL 10"W3V3 w/ a JL 300/4 amp
or
Alpine Type-r 10" w/ a alpine amp to stay with one brand or JL 300/4 amp
Which setup would you guys recommend? If you have any other suggestions please let me know.
Also how difficult would it be for a beginner to build a box for the side of the trunk?
Thanks
John

Just curious is it insufficient to find an amp with 4 channels to power both components then bridge the last 2 for the sub? will it make the sound or anything else bad if done this way. I want a build that also doesn't take up much space, that is the reason for me thinking of getting a 4 channel amp.

i have the jbl gto 75.4 (280rms bridged to 4ohm(?)) - alpine pdx150.4 is also a good candidate
anyways, my setup powers an Image Dynamics 8" sub pretty damn well. enough for me, anyway
Also any benefits of the Type-r over the JL 10w3v3? I am also thinking about switching out the type-r components since they don't give me the mid-range I'm looking for. Would the JL X series be a better component to switch too?

Anything JL is out of the question with a $250-$350 budget. I trust Alpine and Kicker with subs. You might be able to get an older model kicker L5 or L7 sub for a decent price. For amps I always buy from a company called Performance Teknique. I bought a 2500 watt amp for $100 with a two year warranty included on ebay. I know there are better amps out there, but I have run this same amp for three years without a single problem. Good luck!
