Default Sub Install Question

I am thinking about putting either an 6" or 8" subwoofer down into the passenger's side leg area. The bottom part of the passenger's dash side. It going to be tucked under there pretty well. Any advice as to this working or anything? Me and the guys at the shop don't speculate there to be any problems.

Thanks.

Also, Does anyone know where I can actually buy the hard drive for my Alpine CDA-9835?

I thought about doing this but eventually abandoned the idea. Who knows, though, it might work.

Someone at a local shop claimed to have put an 8W3V2 in the footwell of a customer's S2000 and said it sounded good. I didn't get a chance to see or hear this. He admitted it intruded into the passenger's space.

If you search this forum, you'll find pics of a car where the owner cut out part of the floorpan and welded in a sub. That's assuming you're OK with cutting out part of the floorpan.

There's another thread here that shows a less invasive floor mounted sub on the passenger side. The owner is happy with it.

You might consider building up from the floor instead of down from the dash. There's a foam piece under the passenger footwell carpet. Removing it will buy you some enclosure space (but not much). There are shallow mount subs that might fit there (Morel, Dynaudio, Blaupunkt, Earthquake, the new Pioneer Elite TS-SW124D, even Phase Linear). If it doesn't need to be super loud and you can live with or dial out response peaks and valleys, then one of these in a small box might work. The Blaupunkts seem to be the shallowest at 2.24" mounting depth and have a decent excursion spec (10 mm). If you're interested, I can pass along the name of a Blaupunkt dealer who stocks them. They are a little pricy, though, and there's no 8" version, only a 10" and a 12".

Another point to keep in mind: a sub doesn't need to be in the passenger cabin to sound good. Many people are happy with a sub in the trunk. A contributor to this forum named wlaurent makes a box that by all accounts is real nice. It goes in the trunk corner and will accomodate most full depth 8" subs.

What are you using for mids and highs? A 6" will be easier to fit in the passenger area but how much bass will it really add?

Good luck and enjoy.
