Default This subwoofer fits behind the seats!

Hi,

Here is a fun solution that worked really well. I don't like the tinny sound of subs in trunks, am not interested in blasting cars around me, and wanted to focus the sound in the cabin while driving top down.

I installed two Kenwood KSC-SW1 Enclosed Subwoofers from etronic's in the space behind the bottom part of each seat! These self powered subs are really small so I figured I'd need two. It sounds suprisngly good, my installer was impressed.

At low speeds without a lot of road noise they rock, at 70mph most of the bass is washed out, but then that is the case with most anything.

Please note the seats will be touching the front of the unit and at high volumes the air rebounding off the seats is probably causing distortion, but I struggle to hear it.

Etronics.com sold me new units with USA warranties for about wholesale at $160/each, the pricing on a pair of infinity kappas and large kenwood sub was also about wholesale, NICE!

I'm rarely online with this forum, so if you have comments or questions, don't expect me to respond quickly.

I so glad that it worked. I toyed with the idea and installing the same subwoofer. But I felt there wasn't enough clearance and I could not move the seat back enough. If it is convenient, I would love to see a picture or two how you mounted them.

I settled for a Visonik 10" sub in the trunk with a matching amp price was right $70 and when tuned properly really sounds great.

I have a feeling that playhard will not be back for quite some time. He has a total of 9 posts in 4 1/2 years. Too bad, I would like to know how that piece fits also and whether it affects the seat travel.

I've been toying with the same idea, but using only one of these compact Kenwoods. I was afraid it might not be enough for me in the trunk. Good to know there's room behind the seat.

If I go this route, I'll be sure to post some pics.

Ok when you say "fits behind the seats" are you meaning with the seat all the way back? or under the seats
Just can't imagine this thing adds that much bass to make it worth the trouble

Sounds like he has them mounted to the back wall behind the seats. The seat back may touch the unit when all the way back. I like his "sounds surprisingly good" comment.

I have read good reviews of the Kenwood unit adding a surprising amount of bass for its size, but keep in mind everybody's bass requirements are different. This small, powered sub is good for adding some fill to the bottom end and that's it. It won't blow the roof off the car.

If you like a lot of powerful bass in your music, this unit's not for you.
