Subwoofer In Trunk Consensus?
tkmak -- I was at Cartoys(the local install specialists) and the guy there was telling me about one of their more expensive S2000 installs. They made a super strong(thick) fiberglass tub that they recessed into one of the corners of the forward facing wall behind the passenger seat near the floor. Inside the tub was a 10" sub also facing forward. The guy said that part of the install was $800.
Currently, I have no idea how to do this type of fiberglass work or any type of fiberglass work. So, I'll definitely pay closs attention if you guys want to share any knowledge. Shaner, I've been reading about your projects -- DAMN your setup sounds tech -- care to share your shaping techniqes? "I want to be a shaper like Chandler",(North Shore)

Hi
I have the 10" MTX 6000 subwoofer in a QLogic box mashed into the trunk recess. Under the QLogic box I have an MTX 325 watt amp for the interior speakers. Where my spare used to live, I have the Alpine 240 watt amp for the subwoofer.
No Spare Tire cover, so the sound passes from trunk to interior through rear panel vent
No rattles,
No buzzing,
No spare tire.
Comment on sound quality. This is the first automotive subwoofer I've ever had. In combo with the upgraded interior speakers and tweeters and head unit, it sounds terrific.
I was sort of surprised that the sound that comes out of the subwoofer is not music but more like percussive thumping. It is clean and in combo with the rear 3 1/2" Infinity reference speakers, the sound fills the interior. I only drive with the top down. I have no problems with rattles or buzzing.
I really like this set up. I'm sure there are much better, but as it is I spent more than I like to think about and it has met all my expectations.

The s2000 you are talking about was probably local to Seattle, and Noah was the installer. Either that or this has been done twice by cartoys. The owner lost a few inches behind the passenger seat. In other words the passenger seat no longer reclined back fully. It doesn't sound like a very good solution.
As for the install into the passenger side footwell. The Acura NSX comes with a 12" subwoofer, stock. I believe the 10" is using the stock location. That aside, it wouldn't be a very difficult project. You would need to reroute the exit vent for the floor heater, and loose around 5-6" of legroom. This would work better with two lowprofile 8" subs. Probably with Neodyium magnets for a thinner mounting depth (under 3"). I would install these 8
s in the footwell and a pair of 10" subs in the trunk.

Had a custom molded box made for a JL 8W3 put in the right side of the trunk. Sound it adequate for me. I am not into "feeling" the bass from across a parking lot however. This BTW will destroy you hearing later in life.
hello newguy,
I am not sure I am ready to give up the movement of my passenger seat yet. I am leaning towards something close to what 2x6spds did with the Qlogic in the recess. I could still possibly use my trunk. I think I will let the spare sit in the corner of the garage for some quiet time...

So i guess the only reasonable way to have the sub in the trunk is to take out your spare so that the waves will vent out and not rattle the trunk. Would their be any way to make the vents bigger. Just an idea if you really want to hear the bass. BOOM..BOOM..BOOM..BOOM..BOOM..BOOM..
I just pulled my trunk apart to do some planning after hearing all the suggestions... Has anybody opened up the vent between the spare tire area and the behind-the-passenger-seat-area?
Does it improve things??
