Subwoofer In Trunk Consensus?
I have not had the procedure performed on my car yet, but the stereo guy I use (store is called called Gregg Sound in Alhambra, CA) has done a complete install on an '00 s2k. Apparently there's a pocket of space in the drivers side, behind the pedals and between the interior and exterior of the car that will hold an 8" sub very nicely. He said they were poking around looking for someplace to put it, and just realized that the inside and outside didn't line up at all. So he poked a hole in it, and found this huge air space. He dynamatted the inside of it, and mounted the sub in there, then perforated and replaced the carpet. Says they got excellent sound quality without taking up any storage space or changing the look of the inside of the car.

Hasn't anyone put a Kelton subwoofer under the passenger seat, the way AHM said would be a factory option?
I know AHM first announced a January, 2001 release date and then cancelled the project. I think they ran into problems with the mounting bracket, but it might still be possible.
Also, wasn't there a rumor of AHM introducing a powered sub to fit over the spare or instead of the spare. I thought that was in the plans for the new Integra and also for our cars.
I don't want a mega-watt solution myself. I'm just looking for something to get back the Hz under 160 or so that the 6 1/2 inch door speakers can't reproduce.

I've got a small box in the trunk ditch with a JL Audio 10" and a Fosgate 120.5 powering it. The bass is great from it. It's certainly not competition levels, but it will annoy the neighbors for sure. The installer told me that most convertibles usually don't retain much bass when the top is down but he thinks the way the trunk and the large plastic cavern backing under the top tray keeps a lot of the bass audible in the cabin even with the top down. I get little to no rattling outside the car. I will say this, when the top is up, the plastic tray that the top resides on when it's down rattles on hard hitting bass. However, it seems like once the car's been out in the sun for a while, the plastic must expand or something because the rattling seems to always stop. But when the top is down and resting on the plastic tray, there is no rattling at all.
I have a Bazooka 8" subwoofer tube behind the passenger seat and it is absolutely fantastic. The passenger seat is all the way up and it fits fine. I have it so that all I have to do is unplug one plug and out it comes. Since I drive by myself most of the time its fine. If someone goes with me, then I unplug it and throw it in the trunk. I need trunk space since I use the well for the car cover, plus I am not sure how well a trunk subwoofer would work. The bass response is fantastic with the sub in the car.
Honda also has a subwoofer that fits under the passenger seat, but I don't know how well it works.

just to add my $.02,
I have a 10" sub in a custom enclosure that sits in the trunk well, with the speaker facing the passenger compartment ... think of a square box with the speaker facing out of one side of the box; then envision that side of the box being angled back from the top, so the speaker has a slight upward facing angle (35 or 40 deg.). It fits very nicely in the well and is easily removable, if necessary. My amp is installed in the small space to the left of the spare tire (spare tire still in it's place).
The bass sounds great and the trunk doesn't rattle, even at high volume.
