I think the trunk light is only on when the trunk is open. I think the circuit breaks the power when the trunk is closed.

 

Doesn't matter... the fact that a light exists at all means 12V is somewhere back there, and ground is easy to find.

Check out Modifry's mod page. His Optional Accessory Socket Mod makes the Power Outlet live all the time by connecting it to a constant 12V wire behind the secret compartment. You could tap that wire.

I use this mod to trickle charge/condition my battery from a roof top charger.

 

Look for the mod that prevents the trunk switch from being active when the ignition isn't on. When you make that mod, it switches the power to the trunk switch from one that is active all of the time to one that is ignition switch activated. In other words, use the power to the trunk switch in the glove box.
