You'll have to start at either C502 behind the driver's foot well cover, or C504 behind the passenger's foot well cover (the connector by the fan motor that runs into the door). The passenger side is closest to where you're working, but it would be nice to be able to grab the red/white nearer the Convertible Top Module.

There's no telling where they ran the wires. You'd think they would run through the dashboard to get from the driver's side to the passenger side, but sometimes it's easier to assemble the car if the wires all run up to the firewall, and not through the dash. You might have to put a tone tracker on the wire to find which bundle it's in.

I think it's in the big bundle that runs across the front of the dash -- way up in there. I figured I'd have to pull the passenger's foot well cover and get it just before it goes through the rubber grommit into the door. It should go through the 504 connector before it gets that far, so that's probably going to be my best bet. On the way to work this morning I had another thought -- I may decide to tap into the switch for the hazard flashers as the trigger switch. I figure it's unlikely I'll forget to turn those off! I doubt that the wiring for that guy runs anywhere near the top module, though...

Here's what I propose to do (and may do myself soon)...

Why not have a pushbutton switch placed somewhere that will drive a DPDT relay. Basically you have to PUSH AND HOLD the (hidden?) button while pushing the stock top up/down switch to operate the top. I guess you could use a DPDT momentary switch and not even have to worry with the relay.

Also, I can see the possibility of hooking this circuit up to my alarm that will let me raise/lower the top remotely while bypassing the parking brake/speed sensor

I just got a full-height aeroscreen and while I'm installing it I may hookup a switch that prevents the top from being lowered if it is flipped down towards the back window.

If it's hidden, it would have to be somewhere too far away for your right hand to hold it and the top switch at the same time. In other words, you've gotta use 2 hands to put your top up and down! You don't want to do that while driving, which is the whole point of this mod...

Just my .02!

that's true...hadn't thought about that. Well, some sort of hidden and timed switch would probably be the best. Maybe even a momentary switch that has 2 positions...you would use this instead of the regular switch?

Good thread so far...

Lions and tigers and switches and relays, oh my!

Correct me if I am wrong (which I often am) but if you "one-click" the e-brake on, it does not engage the brake at all. So if you disable the speed sensor, then one clock the e-brake, then you have a mantain switch (the e-brake handle itself) that you flip, and then you can raise and lower the top with ease. There is even a reminder indicator on the dash to warn you that you have left your "switch" engaged. No switches or relays involved.

Did we over-engineer this solution here guys? What am I missing?

Funny... What you describe is exactly how I have mine right now, and exactly what I posted how-to instructions for to start this whole deal! I think the over-engineering got started by folks that want to avoid the 'one click trick' and/or have the bypass be a 'switchable' mod.

I guess I am coming from a mindset where I will want to disable BOTH the e-brake and speed sensor so that I can control the top with my alarm. Also, since I'm installing the aeroscreen I'm going to add the switch to it so I can't bring the top down at the wrong time!

I would just like to keep both safety checks (ebrake and speed sensor) ENABLED all of the time, and only disable them when I want to disable them.

But yeah - for most reading this thread, permanently disabling the speed sensor and just 1-clicking the e-brake would work just fine.
