Tweeter install in air vent/larger rears
I recently read a post about installing separates where the tweeters were installed in the air vents and the mids in the door. Does anyone have pics/suggestions/and or experience with this install. I have a pair of Boston RC620's from a previous install....but I hate the look of a surface mounted tweeter and don't want to cut the door panels.
Second question: I never thought a set of 4" components could put out that much sound in the rear especially if the mid is installed low in the panel ala Lucid's mod. Does anyone have pics/suggestions/and or experience installing larger components such as the RC620's (6.5" components)...does it require cutting metal in addition to the plastic?

Anything larger than 4" will require metal cutting. But If you're willing it to shove good 4" components in there with an amp, it'll be louder than a sub in the truck. Its an awesome feeling getting the bass right through your back like that.
Heres an idea that I'm going to play around with:
On the left (passenger panel) is typically where you put your 4". I'm going to try putting another speaker where the vent is to have a dual setup. Of course you'd need an amp and how you hooked up the channels would be something to play with.

I'm thinking about mounting the speaker out from the panel a bit (i.e. putting a spacer of some type between the speaker frame and the plastic housing) to minimize the cutout size and to get a larger speaker diameter in the hole without a metal cut...Hmmmmm, have to think about that one and play with the sizes. Anyone try this?
Any other location suggestions without drilling or cutting the door panel?
I also thought about mounting the tweet to a clip of some type and clipping it around the front of the door handle opening....then the plastic handle housing should hide most of the clip....still think it will be ugly....boy, I really need some of those custom molded tweeter pods that mold to the front of the arm rest.
Anyone seen any A-pillar replacements with built in tweeter pods?

The best part about mounting tweeters creatively in the A-pillar covers is they are cheap to replace... ~$25 each.
Considering dash replacements are $340 (that's where I mounted mine)... and each door is ~$265 each... the A-pillars are the best and least risky to work with...
...unless you never mess up... then cut away!
