Default Underseat amplifier: how big will fit?

I'm in the process of buying components to upgrade my baby's stereo, and want very much to avoid using the limited trunk space. Specifically, I want to mount the amp under one of the seats, but don't know how big of an amp I can fit. I'd like to go with one that's 15" x 10.75" x 2.4", but it seems like that might be a stretch. Another option measures 8" x 10.75" x 2.4".

Any help would be much appreciated!

From what I've seen it's an extremely tight fit down there. I think any amp you select will have to be put in the trunk.

Soundstream Reference 200 model (7.0" W, 9.8" L, 2.25" H) fit nicely under the passenger seat. I replaced it with Soundstream A4 model (10.0" W, 7.0" D, 2.3" H) and it sticks out about 1" that is visible looking down from outside with the top down. I am going to cover it (the visible portion) with a plastic shell or something. I had to put the A4 sideways, of course. I think I can put a longer model if their height is lower. The backside of these were touching the seat bottom and the seat is not moveable. The width can take maybe another inch (wider than 7".)

maybe this will give you some idea...here is an amp I have under the drivers seat that measures 5.2"L x 8"W x 1.9"H...view is the 8" wide.

plenty o' room...doesn't stick out of the seat plenty of air around it for ventilation...easy install.

How did you secure it to the floor? Do you have to drill holes? Does that sacrifice body integrity or introduce places for rust to start?

You can do several things to secure the amp without drilling holes into the metal, ie tape, velcro etc. What I have done in the past is actually cut 4 small slits in the carpet where the screws would go, insert a metal strip with holes in it (like the strapping used for plumbing) under the carpet. Insert bolt with washers from the bottom of the strip into the amp, place washer/lock washer on top of the bolt and tighten. It will clamp onto the carpet and not move. Voila no holes and very secure!

Hope this helps.

Very cool. Velcro sounds like a simple solution, until the amp heats up and softens the adhesive. I like the holes in the carpet idea, though. Thanks, this helps a lot.
