Using a GPS to Find Speed Traps?
ok I have a GPS which is cool, but I found this online and wondered if it works like it says it does, basicly you down load poi maps that are updated as needed. when your moving around in your car, it 'alerts you' to 'known' speed traps and traffic cameras.
Sounds cool ( I want it), does anyone on here use something like this? I think there are a couple of sites that do this. this is the one I was looking at.

I have no experience with this service. However, last year I had a rental car in Switzerland. The car's NAV spoke German, French and Italian; so the rental place provided a Garmin.
It turns out the Garmin was loaded with speed camera locations. Very accurrate. It even let me know when I was busted.
Swiss police found me. I'm still hiding from "the man" in one EU country.

If you have a supported smartphone, Trapster is similar from what I've read. Trapster doesn't require your intervention for updates, however, unlike many GPS units that can't wirelessly update themselves.
I wouldn't recommend relying solely on such a solution, depending on enforcement tactics where you live.
I use trapster on my iphone which is hooked up to my deck. I have it plugged in for music, but what it does is pauses the music and tells me when I'm approaching some sort of camera through the car's speakers.
The only problem with it is that it works based on distance from trap, not time from trap, and it will alert you to traps not on your road, as long as they're close.

These things are in general use here in the UK wheer there are thousands of fixed cameras and mobile cameras.
Both Garmin and Tom Tom have the feature, known as proximity alerts.
Essentially, you need a POI file for the locations of the cameras, and then to load that as a proximity file.
Here's some instructions for Garmin units: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20875
