Default Mounting Solutions

I have my car torn apart and before i go running wires and doing any permanent or semi permanent installs i wanted to get a few opinions or tips if you would.

I had the OEM Sirius interface and antenna unit mounted in my trunk previously. I just installed my aftermarket HU and DCI. Now i want to see where you guys have mounted such on your S2K's for easy access or best place.

I have the Alpine interface & the antenna unit to mount. Both boxes are ~5''x5''.

Behind the radio area is a no go for sure. No space.

So how about the area where a glove compartment would be?

Any spots you guys found that will work?

I put the XM radio module int he passenger side kick panel and the antenne on the dash (center, near the windshield).

I have my Sirius Antenna on the secret compartment behind my rear windscreen. My Sirius dock is installed in the front bin of the secret compartment where I can pull it out and take it inside my house, put in a rental car, etc. It's integrated with my alpine deck so all the info and controls are in the headunit.

Thanks for the reply.

I see you have an Alpine HU as well, so you should have the same 2 interfaces/boxes i have to mount. Correct?

So my antenna is mounted on the trunk. The wire is run up through the cabin. Now my question/issue is where to mount the 2 boxes. I will have to check the "kick panel" you are referring to. Its on the right, where an ECU would be for a RHD car right?

Great thread! I was just about to ask something similar except it was regarding HD Radio. Gonna subscribe to this one. Let us know how it ends up! With pics if possible.

[QUOTE=HiVolume,Nov 12 2009, 09:29 PM] Indeed, check behind the passenger side's "right foot" panel. I used 2 way tape. Another spot that worked out for the Alpine<->XM adapter box was behind the panel that is below the passenger side airbag. Be careful when you remove that panel, the clips break quite easily (broke it twice... Doh!

Here's a shot of the Alpine adapter behind the panel below the passenger side airbag (note that the A/C + blower unit is removed in this shot, which explains the huge void, but it fits even with the unit):

Like I said, I chose to put the main module in the passenger side kick panel. I could have put it in the same location as this adapter, but wanted to use that space for other goodies.

That line is the A/C line I custom made during my accessory tuck. I do have CryO2 though.

(without wanting to hijack the thread, here's an engine bay shot)
