Default Valentine One Question

Quick question for you V1 owners out there. I am going to order a V1 shortly. The unit will pull double duty switching back and forth occasionally between my S2000 and my wife's A4. I plan to hard wire the unit in both vehicles. My question is whether I need to buy any additional hardware from V1. I figure we will just swap the unit and concealed display back and forth, as well as the windshield or visor mount if needed. What about the power wire & power adapter? Do I need to get those from V1 or can I just get the parts at Radio Shack? I've read the how to in the Library- just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks and feel free to add any suggestions on use, mounting, etc.

You should order an extra hard-wire power kit from Valentine. You could likely build the appropriate power divider and cables with R.S. stuff, but for $13, why bother?

Depending on your mounting solutions, you might also want to order an extra windshield bracket. Much easier to leave them in place and just remove the unit than constantly remove and reinstall the suction cups.

If you order the Remote Display, you will get a third piece which is the center point for power and the connection between the untis. I'd install this in one car, and just use the lighter plug adapter for the Remote Display in the other. Moving the third piece between cars isn't practival, since it is hard-wired only. Or, get 2 Remote displays. I don't think there's a realistic third option if you want a concealed remote in both.

The power cord that comes with the unit has a RJ-45 phone jack at both ends, one of which you cut off to hardwire the cable. For $2 you can pick up a phone cord extension that will do the same job. Use the Wally-Mart cable in one car and the Valentine cable in the other car. It beats spending $15 and waiting a week for shipping. There's nthing special about the V1 power cable.

It isn't the cable, but the "box" that the cable plugs into that is needed. I believe it steps down from 12V, but perhaps I'm mistaken. You think the box does nothing but connect +12V and ground to the proper leads on the RJ-11 cable?

I have mine wired into the fuse panel directly. The V1 requires 12v and there is no step down transformers like some detectors use.

No extra box is needed, just a cable connected directly to a fused +12V connection.
