Viper alarm only locking intermittently
hey everyone
i picked up an '00 S2000 a few months ago with a 2-way Viper alarm installed. i'm not able to check what the exact model is at the moment but i'm not sure this problem is model specific..
- sometimes the door will not lock when the lock button is pressed
- however the door unlocks and car will disarm properly always
- even if the door doesn't lock, the alarm will arm properly
- does not appear to be any pattern in when the door does lock properly and doesn't. sometimes it'll be good for a week, sometimes 3 weeks, sometimes 3 days. then it'll go on a streak of not locking when i press the button, meaning i have to use the key manually.
i hope this makes sense. has anyone seen anything like this before?
thanks!

Your viper alarm might not use a relay to trigger your central locking. Try asking your installer to install a relay for that output to convert a weaker ground to a stronger ground. You can find diagrams on www.the12volt.com.
Something about the alarm may be using transistors instead of relay, in which relays have little to no voltage drop, where transistors do. This might explain your "locks sometimes, doesn't lock sometimes" as grounds can be affected slightly by temperature etc.
So I was told anyway.
Peace.

I don't think it is going to be a car alarm issue. The reason I think that is because you said that the door sometimes does not lock even when you hit the button. Is it just the driver's door having an issue? Sounds to me like a door lock actuator is binding and possibly going bad... Hope this helps.
